Description

Revolutionary Design Meets Powerful Performance

Alright, let’s get real—this iPhone 16e? It’s not just another slab of glass and metal. Apple’s out here flexing again, and honestly, they nailed the whole “sleek but tough” vibe. The black finish? Looks sharp, almost like it’s wearing a tux at all times. And yeah, it’s built to survive the usual drops, fumbles, and “oops, I sat on it” moments. You’re juggling a million things—texting, streaming, snapping pics of your lunch (don’t lie, we all do it)—and this thing just keeps up, no sweat. That chip inside? Fast. Like, “did it read my mind?” fast.

Enhanced Storage and Connectivity

Storage? 128GB. So, unless you’re shooting every concert in 4K, you’re probably never gonna see that “storage full” pop-up again. And if you’re one of those globe-trotting types or just like having backup numbers, the eSIM is actually handy. No more fiddling with tiny plastic cards, just tap a few buttons and boom, you’re connected. Switching plans or juggling work and personal? It’s a breeze now.

Exceptional Features for Everyday Use

The screen’s a real looker too—bright, punchy, and perfect for losing three hours to Netflix or gaming when you should probably be doing, well, anything else. The camera? Genuinely impressive. It grabs colors and details so sharp you’ll start thinking you missed your calling as an influencer. Selfies, night shots, random dog pics—whatever, it’s gonna look good.

When my iPhone SE started to act tired, I purchased its “replacement,” the iPhone 16e, and an Apple case for it.

I’ve had it for some weeks now. It is an astonishingly good phone, a great improvement on the SE, with a bigger form factor, 5G capabilities, and an excellent display. If I had the choice to purchase again a successor to my old SE, I’d still opt for the 16E.

Having said that, I’ve experiences two problems with it, which you may want to know about before you make your purchasing decision.

The first is the strange business with the Apple-made case for the 16E, which I bought from Amazon. The phone doesn’t come with MagSafe built in, but one way around this is to purchase a non-Apple Magsafe charger. These chargers come with a stick-on magnet – stick the magnet on your Apple iPhone case, and bingo! – you have a Magsafe phone.

Except that the stick-on magnet won’t adhere to the material from which the Apple case is made. It sticks just fine to two other non-Apple cases I had, but not to the Apple case. To get around this, I purchased a non-Apple case with a built-in magnet, and it works fine.

Briefly, then, and based on my (admittedly limited) testing, if you want to have a Magsafe 16e, you can’t use the Apple case intended for use with the 16e. You can buy a non-Apple case with a built-in magnet. You can dispense with a case altogether and stick the magnet supplied with your non-Apple charger to the back of your 16E. But you can’t get that Magsafe experience using Apple products. I find this baffling, but perhaps there is a good reason for it.

The second issue is more serious, but at least there is some prospect that it will be fixed sooner or later. There is something wrong with the Bluetooth implementation on the 16E, and you can find complaints about it on the usual forums. The problem appears to lie with the 16E’s ability to make – or hold – a connection with devices having older versions of Bluetooth. My 16E won’t connect at all to my 2-year old Bluetti BT-equipped power station, with which my old iPhone SE had no problems, and my 16E has problems connecting with the BT CarPlay unit in my 2008 Honda Pilot: either it won’t connect at all, or else it will drop and pick up the signal intermittently. Once more, my old SE phone never had a problem.

My testing suggests that a reboot of the 16E will cure some or all of these problems for a time, and then they will slowly come back. I would have expected that Apple would have had a fix by now, but to the best of my knowledge none has been offered as of the date of this review.

I’m glad that I’ve found a temporary workaround for the BT issue, but I thought my days of having to reboot phones and tablets fairly often were long gone. I use BT a lot, so for me this bug is a black mark against Apple. But perhaps I’m the only user experiencing these problems. And I do want to be clear that, aside from the two issues I’ve raised here, the 16E really is an excellent and impressive device.
